Tribute to

Loretta Teherani

Loretta was my best friend, confidant and protector. I rescued her . I found her abandoned in a dirty bucket on the side of the road. She was not even 8 weeks old. The moment our eyes met- we became inseparable. We loved going to the beach and our nightly runs along the cliffs/coast. One night a man came out of nowhere and grabbed me and started dragging me onto the beach. There was nobody around. My gentle girl bit his leg and it caused him to loosen his grip and I was able to get free. Then she threw herself against him and pinned him to the ground until I was far enough away. I was scared for her and turned back to get her and she was running towards me with her big smile on her face. Another time, we were playing at a dog park and out of nowhere this huge dog- bigger than my girl who was an almost 70lb yellow lab- ran straight up to her. My dog submitted. Then the dog went after me. It threw its upright body against my back slamming my to the side so hard it knocked the wind out of me. I was screaming for help. I rolled into a ball and used my hands to cover my neck. All of a sudden my gentle girl became a fierce dog. She jumped on the dog they were snarling and drooling and she again threw her body against the other dog and knocked him off of me. A man threw his body on top of the dog and got it in a headlock until the owner came and leashed her dog. My dog suffered no injuries but I was in the hospital with deep puncture wounds and scratches. So you see— she truly was my protector. I suffer from severe anxiety that I can pass out and hurt myself. She could sense when I was going to have an attack. She would lean her body against me while gently pushing me towards a wall. She did this because if I passed out I would be sitting against the wall and wouldn’t fall into something and hurt myself. She was very intuitive to my breathing, and especially my moods. She would sit next to me with her head on my chest and let me stroke her velvety soft ears and listen to me cry and tell her all my thoughts and feelings. She truly was my best friend and confidant. She was also the light of my life. She brightened my life and taught me so much about how to truly enjoy life and live life in the moment. She went through a few surgeries and she bounced back from each one in little time always with a smile. The day we looked into each other’s eyes and she let me know that it was “time “, was earth shattering for me. But I knew I had to do right by her. I lay down on the floor with her head in my lap continuously gently petting her while I kept telling her how much she meant to me and how much I loved her until she took her last breath. When I finally got home and she wasn’t there to greet me, I fell to my knees and then I let out a sound that was more animal than human. I was in actual physical pain. The best part of my life, the light of my life was gone. At that moment, my world became dim. The loss of a beloved family member is devastating and life-altering. In a single moment my life was forever changed. I miss her more than words can describe. I want her back. I need her. My precious Loretta is a beautiful angel now and I know that she is watching over me. I love you Loretta 😢🙏🌸💙🐾
